Customer of the Week: The Hair Boutique Oakura

The Hair Boutique is based in Oakura, a small beach town in the North Island of New Zealand. Like the town itself, the salon is a place to relax, have fun, and enjoy a great coffee.

The salon grew from humble beginnings. Rachel’s business started from home, where she worked alongside a single staff member. Very quickly Rachel had created a business with strong values — it was a place that so many felt comfortable to sit, relax and most importantly, have a bit of fun.

From a young age, Rachel knew she wanted to be a hairdresser. As soon as she graduated high school, she jumped in head first and hasn’t looked back. After being in the industry for close to thirty years, she knows how to create a unique customer experience.

Now running a strong team of six in a boutique salon space, the business is thriving.

Rachel puts the success down the one thing — her staff.

A collective of passionate hairdressers, the team take a no-fuss approach to business. For them, success comes from great people making others happy.

Rachel has found running a business a roller coaster, but she admits she loves the journey. “You will never get bored!”

Although hugely time-consuming, running her own business has given Rachel the power to choose her own hours.

“I love being able to work my hours around my daughter. I can spend time with her, see her school events and take the day off with her when she’s sick.”

As a cloud-based booking system, Timely has allowed Rachel to run her business from anywhere, allowing her to be the best mum and business owner she can be.

A hugely humble and kind-hearted nature, Rachel has built a business that has people at its core.
